The VP9 is a 9mm Luger pistol, and several 9mm Luger ammunition options are available. 1). 115gr. (Grain). 2). 124gr. 3). 147gr.
Considering it's a larger firearm, the HK VP9 does make a great option for general range use, duty, or even competition.

if you do intend to carry it, you should put at least 350 rounds through it first, some people recommend as much as 1000 rounds but I think 350.

Fiochi 115-124gr. Clean and cheap. Can't go wrong with federal and blazer brass has been good to me. I hate Winchester white box personally.
If by "good" you mean a relatively lightweight, ergonomic, reliable 9mm pistol with an unusually crisp trigger due to its precocked striker design, then yes, the HK VP9 is a good pistol. Like pretty much everything else Heckler & Koch makes, the VP9 works well for its intended purposes.

Take your backstraps and side panels to the range with you as dry fire feel differs from live fire and the options you have for a perfect grip feel is there with the VP9.
