Yes you can use +p ammo for the XD Mod. 2 9mm subcompact. I personally called Springfield Armory and they said yes you can but be careful.

That's a bit odd Springfield's CS advised against the +P rounds—-everything I've read so far about the sub-compact Mod.2's say the +P are almost necessary in order for proper operation of the slide while firing.In a defensive situation I'd want the +P myself for the better results. But as Cuda66 says one needs to experiment and find their own "best ammo".

I have some 147 grain jhp from Federal will that suffice? I will be carrying my 12ga pump shotgun too so the 9mm is just a backup or if I'm taking a leak at 1am and don't want to carry my shotgun.
